Whether you want to pass a state law, run for local office, start a movement or fight one, you'll need to run a campaign. This information is meant to guide you to that starting point on the Web.

Successful political consultants and politicians are fond of saying that a campaign needs two things to win: Volunteers and money. While some have been slow to recognize the power the Internet has to recruit volunteers and raise money online, grassroots campaigns have scored well-documented successes. Think Jesse Ventura, www.MoveOn.org and Sen. John McCain's presidential fund-raising coup.

With that in mind, here are some things we believe are critical to mounting a successful campaign on the Internet. (And while this list includes Internet tools available through e-Elections, everything listed below is either available for free on the Internet, or can be done by a slightly savvy volunteer.) In addition, we've added some of our favorite "Web site bells and whistles" at the end of this section.
