Jerry
Brown's Press Secretary Moves to e-Elections.com
OAKLAND,
Calif. (Oct. 14, 1999) -- Stacey Wells, press secretary to Oakland
Mayor Jerry Brown and former reporter for the Oakland Tribune, has
taken an equity position with an Internet startup company in Oakland,
Calif.
Wells
will serve as director of marketing and communications for e-Elections.com,
Inc., which officially launched operations Monday. The company offers
Internet services and free access to short, easy-to-remember Web
addresses for issue-oriented campaigns nationwide.
The
company plans to create a Web community for issues campaigns seeking
to use the Internet to build coalitions and collect online donations.
"The
city's loss is e-Elections' gain. Stacey -- taking our private-sector
emphasis literally -- will now apply her considerable skill to what
promises to be a truly exciting venture right here in Oakland,"
Brown said.
e-Elections
allows any campaign carrying any letter or any number from 1 to
100 to link its Web site to a short, intuitive Web address - such
as www.NOonC.com
or www.YESon2.net.
"Things
are going to get hot around here now," said Christine Lavin, chief
executive officer of e-Elections.com. "Stacey brings plenty of skill
and drive along with a fresh political sense.
"Political
campaigns are increasingly using the Internet to reach voters, and
I believe this is a tremendous opportunity to reach people who are
disenfranchised with the political system. e-Elections allows those
people to again become active members of coalitions and their communities,"
Lavin said.
In
making the move to e-Elections, Wells rejoins staff members of her
previous employer, ANG Newspapers. Lavin is a former editor of the
Oakland Tribune, while Jack Lyness, e-Elections' chief technical
officer, is a former editor of The Argus.
e-Elections
is a nonpartisan, for-profit service. For more information about
e-Elections, visit the Web site at www.e-elections.com.
